Kannon Biraki isho dansu. Two piece clothing chest from the Kanto region of Japan. Meiji era, circa 1870. Kiri (Paulownia)wood face with Sugi (Japaneses cedar) wood case and drawer interiors. Hand forged hirute iron handles and lock plates. The main lock plate is engraved with a samurai class crest. The face wood of this piece was cleaned. It was most likely originally black lacquer similar to the case and interior. 41.25" tall x 15.75" deep x 35.75" wide
