Kasuri is the Japanese style of ikat, where the threads of the material are resist-dyed before being woven. This piece is specifically e-gasuri (picture kasuri) as the image created is recognizable. This process was first practiced in the 12th Century. The image is of a crane in three bars as well as a minogame a turtle so old it has seaweed growing off it's back (a symbol of longevity).
