Kasuri 絣 is the Japanese style of ikat, where the threads of the material are resist-dyed before being woven. This piece is specifically e-gasuri (picture kasuri) as the image created is recognizable. This process was first practiced in the 12th Century. Besides the geometric pattern produced in this piece, a lighter pattern of kiri 桐 (paulownia) is visible.
