Hand sewn uchikake 打掛 (ceremonial robe worn over kimono often at weddings) with repeating pattern of swallows and rice stalks. Tones of grey, tan and gold silk. Uchikake translates as "drape" and these garments were generally worn over kimono. They were showpieces worn by upper class samurai women.   The hem is quilted and weighted with beautifully contrasting red silk.
