Cotton banner of Meoto Iwa 二見興玉神社 (Married Couple Rocks), a couple of outcroppings in the sea off Futami, Mie Prefecture, Japan. They are joined by a shimenawa 縄 (a heavy rope of rice straw) considered sacred by worshippers at the neighboring Futami Okitama Shrine. According to Shinto lore, the rocks represent the union of the creator of Izanagi and Izanami. Tsutsugaki 筒描 (resist dye technique).
