Kasuri 絣 is the Japanese style of ikat, where the threads of the material are resist-dyed before being woven. This piece is specifically e-gasuri (picture kasuri) as the image created is recognizable. This process was first practiced in the 12th Century. This beautiful traveling cape also has an interior lining of Katazome stencil printing with a pattern immitative of a fine tye dye.
